About Papeles Por Favor: Your Spanish Bureaucracy Survival Guide

Who Am I?

I’m Mihail Vasilchenko, an expat living in Spain who has survived the bureaucratic nightmare that is Spanish administration. After spending €650 and countless hours just to get my NIE, I realized that Spain’s administrative system is so broken that it deserves its own survival guide.

Why Papeles Por Favor Exists

Papeles Por Favor was born from frustration, funded by bureaucratic trauma, and built to help fellow expats navigate Spanish paperwork hell without losing their minds (or life savings).

What You’ll Find Here:

  • Step-by-step guides for NIE applications, residency permits, and other Spanish procedures
  • Real horror stories from expats who’ve been through the system
  • Cost breakdowns of what you’ll actually pay (spoiler: more than you think)
  • Office-specific tips for different Spanish cities
  • Document checklists that are actually accurate
  • Translation help for bureaucratic Spanish

My Spanish Bureaucracy “Credentials”

  • NIE Application: Survived two attempts, one 400km road trip, and multiple accountant fees
  • Residency Permit: Currently in progress (pray for me)
  • Bank Account Opening: Only took 3 banks and 2 months
  • Healthcare Registration: Still figuring this one out
  • Padrón Registration: The paper that rules your life in Spain

The Mission

To create the comprehensive Spanish bureaucracy guide that actually tells you what you need to know - not the sanitized official version, but the real, messy, expensive truth.

What Makes This Different:

  • Real experiences from someone who’s been through it
  • Actual costs (not just official fees)
  • Language barriers addressed (porque no hablo español perfecto)
  • Regional differences explained
  • Failure stories included (learn from my mistakes)
